Time to admit that I have a largely unfulfilled knife fetish going back to when I was a child. When I was 12 or 13, I bought several knives (and coveted many more). The one thing all these knives had in common: they were not in any sense good quality knives. They were nice looking but cheap. Quantity over quality.
For my adult life thus far I have made do with a functional but style-less Swiss Army knife. Recently, this Wired article got my knife jones going again. I decided I would like—nay, deserved—a better knife to take camping with me.
After doing a little research, I decided that a Buck knife was what I wanted. I narrowed my choices down to the Folding Alpha Hunter and the Folding Kalinga Pro. My decision was strongly influenced in favour of the Kalinga Pro when I found it on sale at half price at the House of Knives.
I must say, this is a very nice knife. I’m sure it will do a fine job of slicing fancy cheese when I am camping!

Come over here and say that…
My “every day” knife in the bush is a Buck folding knive as well. I tried to find a link, it looks like the Rush, but those ones are in the 80 dollar price range, and I got mine for 20.
They are so sharp when you first get them that it’s a great way to lose an awful lot of blood from the finger, I’ll tell you that much.
