As I mentioned previously, I was planning on adding an sdhc card to my eee and making it part of the unionfs filesystem. I have now done so…the screenshot shows the output of the df command. So I have essentially turned my 2gb eee into a 10gb eee.
I followed the instructions in post 37 of this thread. It went pretty smoothly with a couple exceptions:
- When repartitioning the sd card, cfdisk was unhappy with the existing partition. I followed these instructions and used fdisk to blow away the partition before using cfdisk.
- I had trouble rebooting into rescue mode. I found I had to shut down and restart to get F9 to work.
Of course, now that I have plenty of disk space, the first thing to do was find some way to waste it. So I followed the instructions in this post to install lxdoom. I didn’t have any sound and realized I needed to install lxdoom-sndserv. Even after installing some other stuff, I couldn’t get the midi soundtrack to work…it’s just as well, I remember always turning the music off back in the day. I also realized I had only installed the shareware wad file so went and dug up the wad file for Ultimate Doom which I had on an old backup cd.
I subsequently set up the Doomsday engine according to the instructions in this thread. In addition to Doom, deng also supports Heretic and Hexen!
I’m pretty impressed with how well these games run on the eee. I guess I shouldn’t be…iirc, I used to play Doom on a 386 with 4mb of ram! I guess a celeron 800 with 512mb of ram should work…
