This week, I was at a cottage my parents were renting. While technically not in Prince Edward County (aka “The County“), it is just across the Glenora Ferry from there. The ferry itself is actually quite interesting…it’s part of the Ontario highway system and is free to use. During the summer, it travels every 15 minutes [...] My brother got me a gift certificate from Taste of Cheese for my birthday last year which I just now got around to using. Better late than never! They offer a monthly “taster” of five cheeses chosen from Canada and around the world. Here is what they sent me: Tiger Blue: Perhaps the most famous cheese [...] When we went out for our departmental xmas lunch, my meal was served with sweet potato fries which I’d never had before. They were served with mayonnaise which took me back to when I lived in Montreal and we would frequent a cafe with great beer, burgers and fries served with mayo. It turns out sweet [...] I love my titanium spork…great for camping! But frankly, this knork looks like an accident waiting to happen… I was down at Mickey McGuire’s in Dundas yesterday to pick up some Quebec cheeses. While standing at the counter, I overheard numerous members of the staff promoting a Tasmanian blue cheese to other customers. Tasmania exports cheese? Who knew? After the third mention of “Roaring Forties“, I had to give it a try. I [...] Last week, we had a chili cook-off charity fundraiser at work. A colleague who is a bit of an epicure brought some otherworldly chili the likes of which I’ve never tasted. I decided to reverse engineer his recipe. The unusual ingredients: pork (not ground) Since it had cilantro, I figured it should have lime juice [...] Yes, I like my soup. This is a tasty meal in a bowl. Forget the old commercial about whether to use a fork or a spoon…for this one, you need both! (or a spoon and chopsticks if so inclined) Thanks to Mom for typing this one out and emailing it to me. 8 oz. [...] This is a really tasty and easy soup with the great flavours of lime and cilantro (coriander) and the heat of two jalapeno peppers. 1 lb fresh turkey sausage |
