fuller's vintage ale

I returned to the lcbo to replace some of the beers I’ve been sampling for a xmas eve tasting at my parents. There was no more ola dubh to be had so I picked up a bottle of Fuller’s Vintage Ale. I guess I did not read the box carefully enough as it seems they [...]

ola dubh

Enjoyed this great article on a variety of winter beers available at the lcbo. I trotted down to my local outlet and picked up several of them to try out. In particular, I was intrigued by Ola Dubh, a Scottish ale aged in scotch whisky barrels. Fortunately, due to lack of local supply, I was [...]

osx86 inside

I finally peeled the xp sticker off my wind and stuck this one on…

bon echo

I was camping at Bon Echo this week, north of Kingston. I’d never been there before and it was pretty great. Mazinaw Lake is the second deepest lake in Ontario outside the Great Lakes and Mazinaw Rock is known as “Canada’s Rock of Gibraltar”, rising 100 meters above the lake.

In addition to the natural beauty [...]

smokehead

While scotch was once the only spirit I consumed, an interest in bourbon and more recently rum has meant less scotch. That said, I always walk past the scotch in the lcbo to see if there’s anything new.

This one caught my eye today. Since Islay is my favourite source of scotch, I figured I’d give [...]

more hdr

As mentioned in the last post, I finally managed to shoot some HDR images this trip. I had wanted to when I went to Algonquin but my tripod broke and that’s kind of important. I bought a new tripod for this trip.

I think some of them turned out really well. You can see all ten [...]

prince edward county

This week, I was at a cottage my parents were renting. While technically not in Prince Edward County (aka “The County“), it is just across the Glenora Ferry from there.

The ferry itself is actually quite interesting…it’s part of the Ontario highway system and is free to use. During the summer, it travels every 15 minutes [...]

five cheeses

My brother got me a gift certificate from Taste of Cheese for my birthday last year which I just now got around to using. Better late than never! They offer a monthly “taster” of five cheeses chosen from Canada and around the world. Here is what they sent me:

Tiger Blue: Perhaps the most famous cheese [...]

algonquin

I spent several days this week in Algonquin Park staying at Killarney Lodge. I was there with my parents and my brother’s family. Enjoyed some hiking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, eating, drinking and even just some plain relaxing.

Of course, I also took some photos. “Best of” set is here and all the photos are here.

russian gun imperial stout

Another new beer over at GRB: Russian Gun Imperial Stout. At a whopping 9% alcohol, you probably don’t need to drink too many of these at once.

The beer is named for the cannon that sits on Queen’s Square, just across the road from the library (I can see it when I look out my window). [...]
